Well, we would like to set the record straight...
CHURCH IS NOT AN EVENT, IT IS A COMMUNITY
It is easy to treat church like it is something that we do
once a week (or once a month).
Around the Easter season, the emphasis tends to be on a once a year event...but we think it’s more than that. Much more.
In fact, the early church didn’t really celebrate special days. There’s nothing wrong with having holidays that focus on certain aspects of Jesus’ life and ministry. Likewise, there’s nothing wrong with a busy calendar at church.
Church is a community that is far bigger than a weekly meeting.
CHURCH IS NOT A PLACE YOU GO, IT IS A PLACE YOU BELONG
If somebody asks you where you go to church, you would probably give a name that might correspond to a place on the map.
We believe church is bigger than a location. It is the community of people that gather there. If the location were to change, the church would stay the same.
But, if you are limiting your belonging to a few weeks out of the year, you’re missing out!
What are you missing out on?
EASTER IS A GREAT DAY TO START BELONGING TO THIS COMMUNITY
Easter is Awesome!
It's especially awesome to be at church on Easter!
The church is full. People are smiling. The music is uplifting. The sermon is energetic.
After church, there are family dinners. It's not uncommon to see children scouring the yard to find well-hidden eggs.
But what makes it so great?
The Resurrection
This Changes Everything...
Church is a big deal on Easter because of the Resurrection of Jesus.
One of Jesus' closest friends and disciples, Simon Peter, wrote a letter to the early church and said:
Of course, Peter was an eyewitness to the event and his word is trustworthy.
Another eyewitness to the resurrected Jesus, Paul of Tarsus, wrote in a letter that Jesus' resurrection is so important, that if it weren't true, "then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain." He literally believed his life's work depended on the truth of Jesus' resurrection.
There's more to the story...
Christ died for our sins
He was buried
He rose again!
How has the Resurrection impacted us?
It transformed Jesus' closest friends. They were terrified at Jesus' death and quickly scattered. After the Resurrection, they became bold and courageous preachers of the good news about Jesus' resurrection.
The Early Church began meeting on Sunday rather than Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath.
We no longer grieve without hope. We understand that death isn't the final word. We don't have to be afraid of death because Jesus has shown us that he has power over death.
If Jesus' Resurrection is so important, doesn't it deserve more than just one Sunday a year?
Children will be in school for about 180 days this year
(Give or take a day for crazy weather)
MLB Teams will play 162 regular-season games this year.
The average American will work 260 days this year.
